Spoopy mode in color! Lore time: it’s the final stage of the virus infection. Nobody knows for sure what triggers it but the host starts to act weird and dies within a few minutes. It can be reversed with drugs but they need to be taken early or the host ends up with brain damage

Phantomland is a manga style action adventure about virus-altered people fighting crime, from the POV of a wimpy young rookie who just can’t catch a break.

You said in one of your posts that Elias hates Amber, is there some info I haven't seen on why that is or will it be revealed later on? I haven't noticed any evidence so far in art you do of them. It seems a bit strange to me that he would dislike Amber yet be friends(ish) with Jon (being how he is when it comes to doing his job).

Hey guys! In case you were wondering about the several-weeks-long hiatus…
I just wanna make it clear I’m not planning to abandon Phantomland. I still love it, it’s my precious widdle baby and I think about it every day. However it’s also an ambitious project that gives me stress and I can’t handle any extra stress at the moment. I need to improve my health and pull my shit together before I can work a dayjob and a webcomic at the same time. It takes time, but… it’s happening. Eventually. I can do this.
“But Maaria you’ve been drawing a lot of random shit lately???” I have. If I stop drawing I start to feel like a part of me is dying, so I have to draw something. The difference is that fanart and random shit don’t burden me with deadlines or other pressures so it suits me better right now. Tbh I’m kinda happy I finally have an excuse to get all these random ideas out of my brain! Some of them have been brewing in there for years!
To my readers: if you’re sick of my fickle bullshit and won’t bother coming back to my comic I understand completely. My life is changing and Phantomland is no longer a project that I’m hoping to make a career out of; it won’t become a steadily ongoing webcomic blockbuster, but it WILL maintain it’s own humble existence nevertheless and be a lasting source of fun for me (and hopefully others??).
TL;DR: When will the updates resume? I’m not sure yet, but this time I’m drawing myself a decent buffer before I get back to weekly updates. Hopefully it happens before summer’s over!
Amber is freaking out and throws this HELLA VICIOUS jab because there’s no time to think. That’s the impression I was going for, anyway…
I got obsessed with this panel and it gave me so much trouble. Had such a clear image in my head but it took me several tries until I got it right. (still could use some small fixes though)
heyo! i was rereading phantomland from the beginning and i noticed that you bring up the fact that jon has 'hired' amber and elias to work for/with him? it's been mentioned a couple times, so i started wondering! is this something you'll elaborate on, or did the answer just go straight over my head? they all work for cypress, so how would jon 'hire' them? anyway, i thought i'd inquire, but if it's a spoiler or i just ended up asking a really dumb question, i apologize! ;-)
Sup! Thanks for the message. It’ll be more clear later in canon; basically senior officers can assemble and lead/manage their own teams so they can work on bigger tasks together. I couldn’t think of a better word than “hire” but I guess it makes sense if there’s some financial benefit to the whole arrangement.
Elias and Amber work independently most of the time while Jon will call them up whenever he needs them for a thing. They’re pretty lax about the hierarchy though and trust each other like friends
I actually imagine Phantomland to take place in the late 90′s, at least technology wise. I want the people to have pretty analog lifestyles, cellphones do exist but there’s no such thing as social media yet. Internet is neat but in storytelling you’re going to prefer characters that aren’t connected to each other 100% of the time. This is why Jon is famous for breaking phones, his life would be too easy otherwise
