Why does Jon wield a katana? Is there a deeper reason for it or are katanas just cool?

Originally I had no reason for the katana other than whatever it’s cool!!!, but later I would realize it actually makes a lot of sense for the character. Jon is a cruel fellow, no doubt he loves to make a bloody mess with a sharp blade :-I that said, he usually fights hand-to-hand since it’s enough for most situations
Also gunfights are difficult to make interesting so I try to avoid having them! Give your character a short-range weapon and they’ll have to work much harder to win.
anniilaugh said: OH. I had that impression too :o Like, after losing their memories and even their appearance it’d be impossible for them to get back to their former lives. it would’ve been cool but ah now there’s a possibility they might bump into some “old friends”
Ah yeah I’ve thought about that a lot actually :D I concluded that it serves the story better that they get to keep their faces. So in theory there’s a chance your mother may bump into you, and recognize you, but she’ll quickly realize it’s more like an uncanny knock-off version of you and not the “real thing” at all… which makes her feel confused and upset to the point she’ll just reject you completely and yeah it’s kinda tragic really!
In chapter 2, Chief said that Ghost Virus manipulates the victim's cells and that "none of your tissue remains the same." Does that mean that if a person catches the virus, his/her appearance will change (if he/she survives)? Or that the victim's physical strength or intelligence will change?
Thanks for reading!
This will become clearer as the story progresses but no, the infection won’t really change a person’s appearance - aside from the dots - however a normal person who walks up to a ghost person will notice there’s something a little “off” and creepy about them (chapter 4 will explain this a bit more). This is why Chie & co. must work at Cypress because it’s the only job provider that’s willing to employ them in the first place
Your average ghost is physically tougher than the average human and recovers from injuries much faster. There’s variety between individuals though; Chie isn’t particularly strong but she’s proven to be really good at running
Disclaimer: I don’t actually know shit about virology so I hope no one will call me out on how unrealistic my make-believe virus is… but at least I can promise my characters won’t grow ten-foot spiky tentacles out of thin air like they do in Resident Evil

I have a question for each of the main four (Jon, Chie, Amber & Elias): what's your favorite season and why?

Thanks for the votes! Gotta admit I’m a bit surprised by Chie’s popularity, I knew she was liked but didn’t expect a protag like her to be a favorite to this many people. That’s extremely good news though :’)
What is Jon's opinion on global warming and environmental protection?

Jon is uneducated on the subject
hi just wanted to say how much i love your comic. I actually think the story line is pretty good. It's very interesting and I can't wait to see where it goes. I also can't wait to see how the relationship between the characters develop.
Aw yisss I’m glad you think so! Thanks for reading! Look forward to future chapters, it’s only going to get better <3 (I hope)
Hei eiks Richard Armitage olis kans hyvä Jon koska sillä on sama nenä ja muutenki naama aika samallaine ja se on kans tosi iso raamikas kaveri?

Hey, not bad actually! Give him a slightly squarer jaw and I think we’re set. And this guy’s still alive unlike Palo, haha
Not gonna lie I loooved Richard Armitage as Thorin <3 ahh swoon
If you could choose real-life actors to play the characters, who would be who? My image was that Elias=Ewan McGregor, Chie=Emi Takei, Amber=Angelina Jolie and Chief=Meryl Streep. Jon is pretty difficult, but I guess someone like Vin Diesel (muscular,"tough guy"-type) would be good.
Hahaa that’s a fun thought…..
I agree with some of those; Emi Takei seems like a real cutie and Chief is actually modeled after Meryl Streep, so those are no-brainers! Angelina Jolie looks a bit too mature for Amber, I’d rather go with someone like Emma Stone. Ewan McGregor’s face is too soft and round for Elias but I found a pic of him with glasses and similar hair so he’s alright until I come up with someone better :D Jon is Tauno Palo!

Old doodle that I found and polished a bit
I had a phase where I really focused on world-building so I tried to design a kind of traditional costume for the region Phantomland is set in. Wanted it to look cool but not too gaudy or impractical. Difficult balance to keep
I read Phantomland webcomic and liked it. It gave me a few thoughst, too. A: Chief of Cypress feels kind of like a Machivellian type of leader, the type that pulls the strings and is capable of ruthlessness and manipulation, even though her motives are for the greater good. B: Do you have an idea what kind of voices the characters might have? (for some reason, I can imagine Elias having a British accent...)
All right, thanks for reading!
Many readers do seem to think the chief is a little suspicious. Clearly she’s got some secret plan in the works but time will tell what it’s all about… in any case, she’s well respected by her people so she must be doing something right!
Elias I do imagine to be British, actually! Maybe because he’s the dapper one so it matches the stereotype, haha. I haven’t thought very much about voices but Elias = slightly nerdy, Jon = sort of dry/raspy, Amber = like a young boy, Chie = clear and sincere but not too high, and the chief = deep and soft. Can’t namedrop any fitting VA’s for these but I’m open for suggestions :)
Kinda amusing how much Thranduil looks like my old version of Chief (circa 2007-2008). I’m really glad I scrapped those designs early ahahah… The headdress was supposed to be some kind of ancient relic with plot device powers I think
