Ahh it turns out there is a local sticker printhouse (in my home city no less) that makes all sorts of stickers with transparency and everything! Thanks a lot for the tip! :)
I’m so excited for stickers oh my gosh… it’s not like I don’t have more important things to work on right now but STICKERS
ACTION POSE STICKERS

Already drew one
Lately I’ve been covering all my stuff with random cute stickers like a sixth grader because artist’s alleys have a wide selection of them and I can’t resist. Gahhh now I kinda want to make my own stickers too
I was thinking action poses or somesuch so the characters would seem to “live” on the surface you put them. Maybe they’re fighting other stickers, idk… These silhouettes would be difficult to cut into shape though. I guess chibi art was invented for the purpose but I think it looks kinda wrong with my characters
Character heads could be nice and simple but I’d probably like them better stuffed inside a rectangle or some other shape.
Another idea were panels from the comic (with blank bubbles you can fill in yourself??), or tiny pieces of artwork
I don’t know, what do you think?

Ah I love Sokka’s hair but I feel it’s too hip for Jon :D I’m leaning towards the zero maintenance haircuts because this was a period in his life where he didn’t give a shit about anything
Wow so many votes for young Jon’s hair! Thanks guys!
There were several people suggesting a bald/buzzcut style aaaand it certainly looks really thuggish, I like it :D Dirty hippie hair is more versatile though; I could use it to hide his face or whip it around or tie it in a ponytail…
A few people suggested me to change his clothes but I can’t get rid of the uniform coat. Some kind of shirt under it could make a difference though
I’ll keep looking at my options; you’ll see my final decision in a short flashback sequence in chapter 4 :)
Trying to design a hairdo for a slightly younger Jon and it’s impossible to figure out auuugh. He used to be even more of an evil jackass back in the day so the hair should reflect it somewhat, but messier styles just make him look like an embarrassing scene kid… and the more dignified styles make him look too old. I just can’t win
How did you come up with idea for Phantomland's story, world and characters? Were things different back then? And have characters changed in any ways from when you first planned them?
Good question, thanks!
I think the original idea was that if I’m gonna draw such a big project, naturally it should be something cool & entertaining so I just proceeded to slap together some of my OC’s and a bunch of story elements that I personally found interesting. Out came a world of uniforms and fighting, basically :D Writing an action-heavy thing about regular people would’ve been too limiting so I came up with the ghost virus, too. Things kinda evolved from there and the overarching drama and conflict ended up being mostly about this special minority of people and their role in society
Most of the characters haven’t changed all that much from my first drafts. The chief I originally designed to be male but changed at the last minute. Such a good decision though! Jon started off as a somewhat talkative type with witty remarks, but those traits seemed to suit Elias better, so I turned Jon more blunt and simple to balance that. Overall I haven’t been changing things so much as expanding them from where I started, like character dynamics, and how the virus works, and the politics and history of the city
But yeah, these things I actually explain in better detail in the bonus pages of the print version :)
aletraidi: Don’t know how big Jon is, but according to the height chart -thing (and snk wiki, but don’t go there if you don’t want spoilers, it’s full of them without warning) Reiner weights 95 kg and he can easily use the 3DGM. Maybe if you go well above 100 kg then it would be an issue?
Haha well if you wanna bring logic to it… he seems to have similar measurements with Reiner but he could weigh like 30kg more for all we know :-D different muscle density or something. Ghost anatomy, man
Not that a thing like 3DMG could work in the real world to begin with…
Trying to stay awake. Doodling silly things helps
I don’t know if there’s a canonical weight limit to 3DMG but I’ve heard discussion about it
I have till the end of this month to finish part four if I plan to have it printed for Tracon. A couple months ago I was still confident I could do it, but… this is taking longer than expected. Damn thing always takes longer than expected (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ every time
Even though I’m drawing full steam every day, I’d need to start rushing like a mofo if I wanted to meet that deadline… and nope, rushing is not an option. This chapter is too cool for that kinda treatment. I’ve rushed my comics in the past and it’s just such a big regret later
TL;DR: Phantomland 4 won’t make it to Tracon. Sorry for the letdown! :( I’m not too happy with the decision either; I was really excited about showing off a new comic there
But the good news is that me and leppu will have a table at Fanfest (5.-6.10.) which is one month later! So I hope I’ll have a shiny new thing to sell you fresh off the printers by then!
I just noticed that Jon has this wrist-watch. For some strange reason I got the feeling that it has some sort of deeper meaning to his character... pretty sure I'm wrong, though.
Good observation but nah, he’s just oldschool :D also it’s p much the only accessory he can wear without looking out of character
Sorry for the lack of posts, I plan to finish chapter 4 by September which means I’ll spend the rest of my summer drawing all day erry day
This chapter’s gonna be pretty long! I hope I won’t have to cut anything out. You can tell I’m worried about page count when my layouts get this crowded ;;;
Fanart owls!
I wanted some challenge and picked five of my favourite finnish comics and turned the main characters into owls. Some were easier than others and i feel sorry for poor Colin, but just had to do it. I hope i managed to catch the characters so that the owls are recognizable. If not, here’s the list with links. (so if you aren’t familiar with these, then i suggest you go and read them ^___^)
Leona, Colin, Gabriele and Miko from Prague Race by Leppu
Tuomi and Cypress from Feral Gentry by Arachnodentist
Nayko and Sharky from Judecca by Claystorks
Jon and Chie from Phantomland by Maariamph
Dylan and Joa from Transfusions by Nieidanine
SHIT… I JUST….
THEY LOOK SO NEAT OH MY GODDD :D Jon has spade ears!! This made my day so harddd
ilu myrni YOU ROCK
