Lately I got myself new ink and it’s awesome. Why I didn’t figure this out earlier is anyone’s guess because this is actually the brand manga artists use.

The Deleter ink I used before was this unpredictable crap that needed diluting with water and even then it clogged the nib like a motherfucker. Needless to say inking was kinda tedious, but I was committed to the manga-style lineart and didn’t want to give it up.

I’m one of those people who say “expensive tools won’t make you a good artist” but if you work with ink and nibs, GET GOOD INK.

I still get neck pain from inking though, no matter how I set up the paper or myself. That’s still a problem I need to figure out. But things are good now, I can work on Phantomland a little faster than before and I’m happy about it.

On one hand I know it’s a bad idea to have Opinions™ on tumblr because no matter what you say, or how eloquently and reasonably you express it, you always get a pissbaby or two missing the point and having a raging shitfit over it because they get off on feeling morally superior to internet strangers. It can be funny to a point but there’s also the risk it’ll escalate and gather thousands of notes and get very tiring to deal with

On the other hand I’m like fuck it! Free speech!! This is my blog, I should be allowed to post whatever I feel like posting. If I shut up, that means the harassers win. It’s just not my style to present as the sort of passive non-entity who gives up their voice to have that perfectly “clean” and sterile image online. I’d rather be openly flawed than pretend to be perfect.

Just my two cents I guess

Hilarious how a while ago I made a post criticizing the abundance of junk food in a kids’ cartoon and I still get the occasional message harassing me for being fatphobic or a fat-shamer. Yeeeeah aren’t you just throwing random -isms and -phobias at me to try to win an argument? What happened to that “healthy at every size” rhetoric people go on about, aren’t you hurting your own cause by implying that promoting healthy diets is inherently hateful towards fat people? I mean what?

Where on earth do you get the idea that I hate fat people to begin with. Have you seen the stuff I draw? Hell I used to date a fat guy and I never gave him shit for it. It’s a non-issue. But teaching young kids to prefer junk food over everything else is definitely an issue

But hey don’t mind me, I’m just your regular snooty European pointing out which part of USA seems messed up from my snooty European perspective, why would you need to listen to that when you already live in the best country in the world!

Don’t send me more messages about this, I’ll ignore every single one

I’m bummed that I realize this so late to my “career” but I don’t think I’ve ever practiced drawing enough. I never developed the sort of intuitive hand that can just grab a pen and draw a good figure in 10 seconds. No, I fumble. I draw a big awkward mess and then start to fix it into something decent, and it takes forever sometimes

I guess it’s not enough that one is able to draw anything they want, it’s also valuable to have enough experience that you’re efficient at it

As you know I’ve opened my shop for Phantomland books!

BUT.

There’s an order form in there - what it does is send me an email with the details you’ve given, so I can proceed to make a paypal invoice based on those details. So yeah, it turns out this form fails to send the email sometimes! I have no idea why it happens. So far I’ve had two people ask me why they haven’t heard a response from me yet. I’m so sorry! I hope there’s not too many people out there mad at me!

So I need to fix this problem somehow. Any code wizards out there who can figure out why my order form sucks? Or any suggestions for a better solution?

So I recently got some really kind and encouraging messages from a couple anons. I don’t feel like making them public, but just so you anons know, I did read your messages and I got very happy and buried my hands in my face and spun in my chair a bit. Thank you so much, it means a lot to me. I’m still struggling with my mental health so it’s reassuring to know there’s people out there with such an enthusiasm towards my stuff. You guys are amazing

sadcop said: Maybe try to make a rough storyboard for the whole chapter? That way you’ll know how much space you have.

Thaaaat’s a good idea on paper! But I only have like 5-10 pages thumbnailed in advance at any time haha. I like being able to change my plans at the last minute so thumbing an entire 50-60 page chapter would compromise that. I guess one solution would be to look at my script in detail and make a careful estimate of pages for each scene, idk

As much as I love decompression in comics I’ve actually been pretty bad at it so far. Mostly because I have a page limit for each chapter and I’m afraid of going over, so I tend to make the pacing super tight and cramped just in case.

With this chapter I’m trying to pay more attention to the issue so you’ll probs get more of these “slow” moments. Hopefully I’ll get used to drawing more pages each week to compensate  (・_・;)

ered-jaeger answered: you can create the invoice at paypal directly - it’s under the request money tab!

yinza said: The PP site specifically says if you don’t have a tracking number to mark the invoice as “Order Processed/Service Rendered” (though this is still under “Add Tracking Info” which is a little confusing). It’s the same option as for digital delivery.

proteesiukkonen answered: With PayPal, it’s never a good idea to pretend anything beccause it makes it look like you might be scamming people or PayPal, and that’s when they start giving you trouble.

Okay this stuff’s starting to make more sense, I think I know what I’m doing now. Fingers crossed that things will go smoothly. Thanks for all your help people!

tumblueberry answered: Paypal is apparently being more strict about the usage of their site, so pick something “legal” in exchange of the goods. If they see something suspicious, the sue could be like 2000€. I think it’s better to send clients an invoice they have to pay :)

Oh god I’m a little nervous now haha. Does it count as an “invoice” if I send people emails detailing how much they owe me? Because that’s how I’ve done it so far

I found out that if you include a home address when paying for goods & services, Paypal might then expect to know every detail, tracking info etc. about the package that’s being sent. The thing is I AM sending physical books but I don’t have any papers about them aside from the receipt I get at the post office ( ̄□ ̄;)

Soooo I guess it would be smarter to just pretend I’m selling non-physical goods to avoid that hassle??

Heyyy anyone familiar with Paypal! I’m gonna start selling books again with people sending payments to my account, was there something I should be aware of lest Paypal gets suspicious and takes my money away? I kinda recall there was something but can’t remember?
