does it freak you out that i call jon my husbando? :-(

Is this captainbasch…. :-D

Nah, he’s my most popular character so the possibility of someone having a crush on him doesn’t really surprise me… Though I doubt you’d have much success trying to marry this guy hahaha

I just re-read Phantomland... Ok I do remember it's good stuff and that's why I bought it, but seriously this stuff just... BLOWS MY MIND. Like I'd expect Finnish self-made manga to be kinda so-so or lacking in some parts, art or story-wise but Phantomland flows, it clicks, it WORKS it's beautiful magic, and I am left craving for more. Seriously, I will buy every single volume of this stuff because WOW. // end of foam-at-mouth-fangirling (tl : dr u awesome whatever you're doing don't stop)

I’ve put ridiculous amounts of effort into the comic so I can’t even tell you how nice it feels to be reassured that it’s worth all the trouble! Waah thank you so much, I’m glad to have a reader like you

Alright well,I know Jon most likely enjoys being a drunkard,chain-smoker and working alone but for some reason he just looks tried and lonely. Though that's probably just my opinion but am I some what right on that opinion?

Hmm yes, he has a bit of a tired expression that I draw intentionally. Does he seem lonely though? Jon does have friends - only a handful, but it’s quality over quantity for him :’)

Are there ghosts in other parts of the world, too, or just in the country where Santa Luison is located?

Officially the entire ghost population lives within the city area since it’s the only place in the world they’re legally allowed to! Leaving the city is permitted for a limited time (for work purposes); leaving the country is not. The government takes these measures to prevent the virus from spreading further

That said, a few adventurous types have attempted to sneak out into neighboring countries but it has never ended happily. If/when they get caught the punishment is harsh on either side of the border :’)

How old are you?

I’m reaching the point in life where I’m supposed to:

  • pull my shit together
  • graduate
  • get a job and/or life

Emphasis on “supposed to”

Hi :) I was wondering: if you're from Finland, how come you have such perfect english?

Why thank you! :’)

Kids in Nordic countries are taught English from a young age and we get constantly exposed to the language from TV and movies (which are subtitled) so the younger generations have a pretty good understanding on average. I learned most of my English from the internet though.

I get kinda obsessive about having flawless grammar, often checking with Google when I’m unsure. Mastering the language wouldn’t hurt since I write comics in English too… Aside from that though I rarely speak English so that part tends to get a little rusty

Where does Cypress receive the money to pay the worker's salaries, living and all the needed equipment? Are they government-sponsored or something else?

The government funds Cypress via the regular police force which commissions them to handle their more demanding/dangerous tasks; most of the salaries come from there. There are some investors as well, for example medical companies that are interested in the virus.

Thanks though! I appreciate these sort of questions because they force me to think a little :)

A question for Chie: Why do you wear your hair in twin-tails? Ever considered image change, like ponytail, braids, or haircut?

A thought just struck me. If two ghosts get together and *ahem* do that, will their child be a ghost too?

Oh that?

Nah, babies don’t happen. The virus makes you infertile

Do you know sci-fi game series called Mass Effect? If you have any interest in sci-fi, I recommend checking it out, the world's really deep and well planned. Also, I think that the krogan race would make worthy opponents for Jon, since they, too, are aggressive, brutal fighters.

I’m super picky with shooters and tend to prefer console games, but other than that I’ve been sorta interested in Mass Effect. Romancing aliens seems pretty cute :’) Maybe someday…

That last sentence though

Hi, do you use Wacom or you draw the old fashion way (with a pen and a paper) and scan it later?

I rarely draw on paper these days aside from the comic pages. It’s just so much faster/easier to do layouts and sketches on computer so I tend to go all the way with it…

How many copies of each Phantomland issue have been printed?

image

Sorry, I prefer to keep the numbers to myself :’) Not that it’s a huge secret or anything but I just don’t see a benefit to sharing that stuff

That said I’m running out of vol.1’s and plan to make a reprint soon

Ever checked out the popular new manga, One Punch Man? I don't know if the story's your cup of tea ('cause the target audience's boys half your age), but someone as into art stuff as you'd probably appreciate Murata's incredible use of panels and angles quite a lot. For example, ch. 17.

image

Gotta admit I’m intrigued by this main character

I remember having read some length of Eyeshield 21 and loving it, also Murata has a cool style so I think I’ll check this one out too. Thanks! :)
